What was a legion composed of?
- A legionary was a soldier in a legion
- A contubernium was made up of 8 legionaries sharing a tent or a room in the barracks
- TEN contuberniums made up a century which was a basic fighting unit. Centuries were commanded by centurions
- SIX centuries made up a cohort
- TEN cohorts made up a legion!
IN SOME LEGIONS THERE WERE AUXILIARIES - EXTRA SOLDIERS.
Remember that obviously there wasn't EXACTLY this many people in each legion - there were lots of commanding officers and auxiliaries.
